I am so sad to read of Helen’s passing. She was a massive influence in my life in two ways. Firstly, she was my singing teacher in the1970s and what fun that was. She was responsible for organising my biggest singing “gig” as Soprano soloist in the Carnegie Hall. (Sadly, it was the one in Dunfermline, not the one in New York!) Secondly, in an amazing coincidence, I was appointed to Gracemount Primary School (where she was Deputy Head) as a probationer and stayed there for 4 very happy years. Again, what fun we had! Subliminally, I learned a great deal from Helen about leadership which came in very handy when, many years later, I became Head of the Junior School at George Watson’s College. Helen would have been delighted to know that my daughter, Lorna, is now Deputy Head at Edinburgh Academy - John, of course, being a great Academical. I continued to visit her socially and for the occasional lesson after she moved to Ravelston and we exchanged Christmas cards until quite recently. Thank you so much for the music on this site. The Sea Pictures, particularly, transported me back over 40 years.
